July 2010 – From the Editor
Welcome to the July 2010 issue of the Musings of the Othar. I hope everyone has a fun safe 4th of July. This month’s Feature Article will be examining Robert J. Sawyer’s Hominids. While not without a few flaws, Hominids is an excellent and thoroughly enjoyable book, worthy of the Hugo Award it received. More on this can be found in the Feature Article.
The Fayersae Histories continue this month, and our scene stays with Findian and Avanian and their discovery of Windraes deep in the mountains outside of Spirit. This will mark the end of this sequence of scenes between the two, and I hope that presenting a young Avanian to my readers has allowed for a deeper insight into her character as we follow her as an adult in the Harmony of the Othar Saga. Also, being able to tell the story, in part, of Findian, the mother of Blonhaft and Brancynn, has been very rewarding, and I look forward to writing more scenes in future involving Findian. Hopefully, my readers can gain a better appreciation of Findian’s sons, particularly Blonhaft, as I do so. For those who may have missed an episode or two, the previous month’s installments can always be found online in the Full Fayersae Histories Archive.
I’d like to remind everyone again that the web site for Animus of Hauden, book two in the Harmony of the Othar Saga is up; please visit Animus of Hauden if you haven’t had the chance yet.
Again, things moved very quickly this month regarding the release of book two, Animus of Hauden. A reminder that eBook versions are now available from Smashwords, and print versions should be available from all the major online retailers by the time you read this. It may take a couple more days for the cover pictures and annotations to show up on all the retailer’s sites, but Animus of Hauden should be available for purchase on Amazon and B & N. As always, look for an announcement via my Facebook page or check the web site for periodical updates. I will outline more details on the process of preparing Animus of Hauden for print in the Harmony of the Othar Update section.
Like last month, so much time was spent getting Animus of Hauden ready for the reading public, that I only completed a portion of what I intended to on book three. As usual, it seems I could use more hours in a day. I expect to make better progress during the month of July now that the interior layout and cover design for book two are complete.
As mentioned, Animus of Hauden is now available in print, and I’d like to thank my good friend, Dave Norrgard, for producing the author cover photo. He did an excellent job given that I abhor having my picture taken, and I thank him for persevering until we got it done.
Anyway, this summarizes a very busy and exciting month. I hope you enjoy this month’s installment of the Musing of the Othar, and if your summer reading list isn’t already too long, please check out book two in the Harmony of the Othar Saga, Animus of Hauden.
Yours Truly
P.A. Seasholtz, Editor
